Jaba Samushia, Thomas Lichtenberg Sign Memorandum of Cooperation

 

Academician Jaba Samushia, Rector of Tbilisi State University, and Thomas Lichtenberg, Regional Director for Caucasus and Southeast Europe of DVV International, the Institute for International Cooperation of the Deutscher Volkshochschul-Verband e.V. (DVV), the German Adult Education Association, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

The cooperation between TSU and DVV International includes internships for academic staff and students, educational activities, and research relations.

Rector of TSU, Academician Jaba Samushia said that the development of education management is of strategic importance for the university. He noted that the World Bank is implementing a very interesting project, one of the directions of which is education management. “In the near future, the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of TSU, together with its partners, is expected to make an international application and participate in the mentioned project,” said Jaba Samushia.

According to Rusudan Sanadze, Associate Professor of TSU, the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of TSU is implementing master’s and doctoral programs in vocational education. According to the memorandum, the students of this program will do internships at the regional centers of DVV International, conduct research activities, and participate in joint courses.

Thomas Lichtenberg, Regional Director for Caucasus and Southeast Europe, emphasized that the memorandum will be the beginning of fruitful cooperation. He also noted that academic and practical cooperation is very important. It will be interesting for students and university staff to get acquainted with practical examples, he added.

DVV International is a global professional organization working in 30 countries since 1969, and in Georgia since 2002. Since 2006, the organization has established 15 adult education centers in Georgia.

DVV International aims to popularize and promote the concept of adult education and lifelong learning. Throughout the world, the organization creates and develops sustainable structures for adult and youth education.

Since 2008, the Department of Educational Sciences of TSU has been cooperating with the Regional Office of DVV International in South Caucasus and Southeast Europe to popularize the issues of adult education.
